Nolan Transfers Into TDCJ
No TDCJ prison unit was identified in Nolan County. A person sentenced there may be assigned to any suitable Texas unit. When the county jail closes its stay for a TDCJ transfer, the person remains confined. Allow time for intake processing, then use the statewide Information Search.
Conviction county does not identify a current unit or release place. Parole and mandatory supervision mean release from secure state confinement while the sentence continues. Discharge is the endpoint of TDCJ authority. Projected release, maximum sentence, and parole eligibility dates answer different questions and are not proof that release occurred.

Texas State Release Outcomes
The Nolan County Jail is the main local adult booking facility. It receives people arrested by the sheriff and may also receive arrests made by Sweetwater police, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and other agencies. A closed jail stay can lead to several different places. Someone may walk into the community after bond, dismissal, a judge's order, or completion of a county sentence. Another person may leave the building in restraints for TDCJ, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE. Both events end the person's physical stay at the Nolan County Jail, but only the first is a simple community release.
Probation adds another path. A court may place a person on community supervision after the jail stay, and the 32nd Judicial District CSCD may then oversee the case. That is not parole. Parole follows state imprisonment and is administered by TDCJ. A state prisoner can also return temporarily to Nolan County on a bench warrant and later go back to a TDCJ unit. The jail's release or transfer entry should therefore be read beside the court judgment and, where relevant, the receiving agency's record.
A disappearance from Current Confinements means only that the person is not shown in that live Nolan County view at the time checked. It does not prove community release.
Confirm a TDCJ Release
The sheriff links an official Citizen Connect Inmate Confinements portal. Its Current Confinements mode is useful for a present-tense check. The Admits by Date Range mode can locate an earlier booking with a last-24-hours choice, a last-seven-days choice, or a custom span of no more than 31 days. Those are admission searches, not release lists. Record the search date and compare the full name, booking number, identifying details, charges, and arresting agency. Name-only matches can join the wrong person to a record.
If a past admission appears but no current confinement does, use this sequence:
- Save the booking number and the date range associated with the Nolan County Jail stay.
- Call the jail for an immediate custody check and ask whether staff can identify release or transfer.
- Submit a written request when documentary proof of the date, time, type, or destination is needed.
- Retrieve the related bond order, dismissal, judgment, sentence, or commitment from the correct court clerk.
- Check TDCJ, the receiving county, BOP, or ICE when the jail record points to another custodian.

A focused request is more likely to identify the right existing records than a demand for every document. Ask for the booking sheet, jail card or confinement history, booking and release date and time, public release type, releasing authority, public bond and hold information, transfer destination or receiving agency, and booking photograph for the specified stay. Include aliases, an approximate booking period, and the booking number if known.

When the public detail is unclear, identify the TDCJ or SID number, conviction county, date span, and exact release-related document or field in the inquiry. Ask for the status as of a named date. TDCJ information can change, and security, victim, medical, and other protected data may be withheld or redacted. The Nolan sheriff remains relevant only for the earlier county transfer record.
TDCJ Release Versus Transfer
The receiving system determines the next search. For a felony transfer, the statewide TDCJ Information Search may show the person after intake processing. A Nolan County offense in the state record identifies a conviction county, not the person's current unit or release location. Parole and mandatory supervision mean the person left secure state confinement but remains under sentence supervision. Discharged means TDCJ authority has ended.
A federal transfer may involve USMS before BOP receives a sentenced person. The BOP locator is therefore not a complete federal pretrial index. An immigration detainer can also lead to a direct ICE transfer after Nolan County's authority ends. In either case, a closed county booking does not mean the person walked free. Ask the jail to name the receiving agency, then use that agency's official locator or the controlling court case.

Nolan Sentence and TDCJ Status
Nolan County says its judicial records from 2000 forward are searchable as an index. An index can locate a case number, party, filing event, or disposition label. It is not always the signed proof. Felony matters generally belong with the District Clerk and 32nd District Court. Misdemeanors generally run through the County Clerk and county court. A city ordinance or Class C case may remain with the Sweetwater Municipal Court.
Request the actual signed order that fits the event: a bond order, dismissal, judgment, sentence, discharge order, or other dispositive filing. A court order may show why release was lawful, but it often will not show the minute the jail opened the door. Pair it with the booking or confinement chronology. If a transfer followed the order, also use the receiving custodian's status record.
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 governs requests for existing public information held by Texas governmental bodies, subject to confidentiality and exceptions. An agency need not answer research questions or create a new report. Narrow dates and named fields help the office identify an existing record and apply any required redaction.
Correct a TDCJ Release Record
When a TDCJ status or date appears wrong, preserve the exact label and identify the person with a TDCJ number or SID. Supply the judgment, amended order, or other official support to the state office responsible for the field. A Nolan County jail correction cannot change the separate TDCJ record.
When an official release field appears wrong, identify the booking and case, then send the originating office a clear correction request with the signed order or other support. Changing a third-party copy does not alter the jail or court record. Texas expunction and nondisclosure rules can also change later access, so an absent result should not be treated as proof that no event occurred.
